WIDE OPEN EXPERIMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL:
FREE MOVIES
FREE MOVIES is a rallying cry and a promise. WOEFF showcases films that show what’s possible when film is free from expectations, free to express whatever the filmmakers choose, and provided to audiences free of charge.
Since its founding 2022, WOEFF has remained a noncompetitive film festival that showcases experimental films that open peoples’ eyes to the alternative forms, structures, and styles of film. As we bring excellent experimental films to Oklahoma City, we aspire to make WOEFF a site of dialogue, expression, and challenge when it comes to viewing and making avant-garde cinema.
WOEFF highlights anything that falls under the broad umbrella of “experimental film.” We’re interested in unusual techniques, fringe topics, edge cases, longing outsiders and fed-up insiders, films that break machines, films that channel rage onto celluloid, films that quietly observe, films that chaotically invent. Films by thoughtful weirdos, intuitive poets, structuralists, purists, Luddites, avant-gardists, experimenters, artisans.
In past years, we've showcased works by filmmakers like Tomonari Nishikawa, Kelly Gallagher, Lori Felker, Sasha Waters, Ben Russell, Peter Rose, Dominic Angerame, Bill Brown, Caryn Cline, Gregg Biermann, Crystal Z Campbell, and many many more.
Wide Open Experimental Film Festival is organized by the Film Department at Oklahoma City University. The Festival Director is Visiting Professor of Film Billy Palumbo.
